I still can’t believe how well our website performs some 4 years after HirMon took it over. We still get at least 1-3 emails a day from the site requesting more information. Not bad - considering the site doesn’t even have a Contact page! RH - Conifer, CO (It’s true! The website doesn’t have a Contact Us! page. And, yes, we are that good ;) |
This is a double-edged subject. For example, a few of the things visitors don’t want include:
- Gobs of text that stream down a page endlessly. If they can’t find what they want to see immediately - they’re gone!
- A presentation that is so overladen with graphics that are so grossly out of proportion it gets in the way of finding what visitors want
- A lot of blinking or "eye catchers" on a website. It’s annoying...
- An amateurish presentation -- if visitors get the impression that you are an amateur by what they see on a website, why the heck would they bother to contact you to do business?
What visitors do want to see on a website, is actually very straightforward:
- The information they need in a clear, no nonsense format
- A way to communicate with the business/organization represented by the website (and an Contact us page -- doesn’t count)
- Accomplish some goal they have for being on the Internet for any given session
While that might sound simple -- pulling it off can be a challenge. The problem we find most common about websites in general is this:
What a website owner wants to include in their website -- is usually irrelevant.
Information? Yes, that’s important but by itself, it won’t get the job done.
Relying only on a Contact us type of form for feedback? That’s lame.
It is what visitors want and expect to see in a website that will often determine its success or failure.
Ouch! Sadly - that is 100% true. Here’s why -
What is frequently overlooked is that serious website visitors are often more savvy about what makes up an effective website than most owners. The days of "casual surfering" visitors went the way of the dodo bird years ago.
Unless your website can accommodate as many of a typical visitors’ wants and needs for a specific genre of website -- a printed brochure may be more effective.
HirMon & Associates provides its client with guidance toward including both the information -- and the functionality -- visitors want and expect to see in a website for over 20 years.
You’re the expert at what you do and we work with our clients to produce the best possible website, printed and communications strategies for each, unique situation.
